The Magic of Life
We provide a fully inclusive service hatching chicks and ducklings in classrooms for children of all ages.
Interactive class presentations are included providing excellent value for money.
Benefits
Interaction with live animals can help children develop compassion, respect and responsible behaviour. Opportunities to explore the mysteries of life can be a highly compelling and enriching experience for children, increasing an interest and understanding of all forms of life. Our talks can be tailored to suit any age or educational need and not only will the children experience a unique and exciting event, the learning potential is fantastic. The project can be linked not only to science but the whole curriculum through creative writing, art, model making, ICT, class farm projects, music, language, caring and emotion, maths, lifecycles and much more! Our aim is to provide a valuable learning experience. We believe it is important for a child’s development to learn a healthy respect and understanding of animals and how rewarding caring for them can be. Putting the chicken’s welfare and happiness first is our priority. All our chickens and ducks are truly free range and every one is a family pet. All the hatching eggs we provide are from our own flock of free range poultry on our farm in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
Equipment
The 20 egg incubator is semi automatic and has a digital temperature gauge and humidity reading. Simply ensure the little drawer has water and thats all there is to it. It even turns the eggs to replicate nest conditions They provide the necessary temperature combined with the correct humidity for the development of the embryo. They also have excellent clear viewing windows.
Egg Candling
The Ovascope candler is a fantastic tool for class talks as it shows the development inside the egg by shining a bright light through the shell. This can be viewed on a laptop and also connected to a projector.
Brooder
Once the chicks have hatched they are transferred to our brooder tank which has a clear plastic lid giving an excellent view for the spectators. For warmth the brooder is fitted with a low wattage heat plate with three height settings. Only lukewarm to touch so perfectly safe but nice for the chicks.
